About Us
The Pro-Colorado Education Project is a nonprofit startup founded to support and connect grassroots groups focused on transparency, accountability, and ethical governance in Colorado public public education. As public education became increasingly polarized and adversarial post-pandemic, people in many communities around the state found that established nonprofits and oversight agencies just weren’t effectively addressing gaps in research, communication and collaboration. ProCO was founded to address those gaps and establish a support system.
Colorado is colorful, unique and committed to local communities. We get it what an uphill battle it is to understand and explain the public education landscape. Especially for people in school districts with smaller populations, less money, or elected officials less connected to or less information about public education. Combined with the increasing polarization in the state and country, the knowledge gap can feel insurmountable, making it even more difficult to engage and support the diverse public education options we have in Colorado.
Pro-CO’s name is grounded in the idea that instead of people just fighting against something, we will find common, less partisan ground if we unite around what we are “for.” While forces want to divide us, we believe that Coloradans do have some solid, common ground they can stand on. Together.
What ProCO does: We compile research, educate the public, and train community members about topics and issues that support to transparency, sound governance, fiscal accountability, and civil rights laws in Colorado public education. We proactively support Colorado communities who are concerned with the future of public education by curating and providing easy access to resources, learning opportunities and communication networks.
